    Curriculum

    The online curriculum for EXCEL Academy for the 2024-2025 academic year will be Edgenuity.  

     
    Student Status
    Students enrolled in EXCEL  Academy will be deemed nontraditional students.  Per this designation, nontraditional student are not eligible to receive Honor Graduate awards (i.e. Valedictorian, Salutatorian, Historian, or Top Ten).
     
    Athletics
    Calhoun County Schools will adhere to the guidelines set forth in the Alabama High School Athletic Association with regards to athletic eligibility and participation.
     
    Admission
    Admission to the EXCEL Academy is available to all students enrolled in a Calhoun County School in grades 6 thru 12. Factors that will be considered when reviewing applications include:
    • Student motivation and work ethic
    • Transcript to date/High school students must be on track to graduate to qualify
    • Attendance history/issues with truancy
    Requirements
    EXCEL students and parents are expected to:
    • Maintain the pace of the course set forth by the instructor
    • Submit assignments and take assessments by the established due dates
    • Check email daily and maintain regular communication with course facilitators and EXCEL Virtual staff
    • Return to the base school for the administration of all state-mandated assessments
    • Attend all scheduled conferences or meetings with EXCEL or school staff as necessary
    Attendance
    Please be advised that attendance is recorded for EXCEL students. Failure to complete and submit assignments by the posted due dates in the courses may result in an unexcused absence being recorded for the student. Students will be referred to Early Warning Court when he/she receives 5 unexcused absences and his/her status as an EXCEL student may be revoked. The student will then be required to return to in person learning at his/her base school.
