CORE Scholars / Dual Enrollment

  • The Saks High School Dual Enrollment Program allows juniors and seniors the opportunity to earn college credit through Jacksonville State University. Students may elect to take American History 201/202, English Composition 101/102, and/or Math 112/113.

    In order to be eligible for dual enrollment, a student must meet JSU accelerated high school student conditions. These conditions include but are not limited to:

    • EH 101, an ACT score of 18 or above, SAT score of 430 or above
    • MS 112, an ACT score of 22-23 or an SAT score of 500-519
    • Minimum of a “B” average in CORE classes, beginning in 9th grade
    • Submission of appropriate application fees and forms
    • Timely payment of tuition
    • Instructor approval


Calhoun County Career Academy Programs

  • Students at SHS may take Agriscience and career technical programs in home economics and business here on campus. In addition, students may attend the Calhoun County Career Academy in Jacksonville where they may specialize in many areas including automotive services, collision repair, cosmetology, culinary arts, drafting and design, early childhood education, health science, precision maching, and welding. There they may also participate in cooperative education and gifted/enrichment services.

Advanced Placement

  • SHS offers several AP courses: English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, U.S. History, and Government. Students who take the appropriate course and score a 3, 4, or 5 on the exam may earn three hours of college credit.


Fine Arts

  • SHS offers two wonderful music programs through the choral department, directed by Ms. Krista Kilgore, and the award-winning band program, headed by Mr. Gene Inglis. You may visit the Saks High School Wildcat Sound webpage for additional information about the band program.
