Calhoun County School District has been named a "Heart-Safe Schools" by Alabama LifeStart, a school safety program of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and Children's of Alabama. The district's elementary, middle and high schools are the state's newest Heart Safe Schools, joining a handful of others around the state to earn the commendation. John Stone, manager of community action at Children's of Alabama, presented the award to district leaders February 2022. Department Principles
- Every child is entitled to a level of health that permits maximum utilization of educational opportunities.
- Parents have the basic responsibility for the health of their children, school nurses work in partnership with parents and physicians in providing health services to their children/patients while in school.
- The appropriate roles of the nurse in the school health program include delivery of health services, advocate for the rights of children; counselor for health concerns of children, families, and staff and educator for school/community health concerns.
